What is it about?

The citizens of Serbia, as well as the entire Balkan region, are playing a game of dodgeball, caught between “team households” and “team electricity”. That being said, what we’re trying to dodge is not either a ‘shot’ from the first or the second team, but ‘shots’ from both sides/teams that pollute the environment, endanger the health of citizens, and cost money, as well.

Many of us are “burned out” by living in fear that one of these fireballs will leave us scalded to an untreatable degree. That is why we will deal with the matter of avoiding air pollution, instead of dodging the fireball.

Team households” consist of “small users”: individual furnaces in our homes, heating devices in public institutions and companies, stubble burning. According to Serbian Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), individual furnaces are the main source of primary emissions of PM. Limited availability of financial resources imposes inefficient heating practices on these households, as well as the public sector. Taking into account bad/flawed structural design, inefficient heating technologies and use of poor-quality fuel due to low income, low standards, lack of knowledge, lack of financing and other difficulties, it is obvious that we, as a society, have a very serious air pollution problem.

During ‘Team households’ panel, a focus of discussion will be on finding an answer to the following question: How to replace inefficient kitchen appliances and heating devices in households with more efficient ones?

“Team electricity” ‘shots’, for the most part, come from thermal energy sector.

During “Team electricity” panel, a focus of discussion will be on finding an answer to the following question: When do we stop burning coal?
