In winter, Pljevlja is one of the cities with the most polluted air in the region, where 2000 tons of coal in the season are burned by the city boiler room. Exploitation of coal shaped the city and the life in it.
Since 2015, there have been subsidies for pellet devices and the city managed to abandon about 4000 tons of coal and 4200m3 of firewood in the last season.
