Energy cooperatives are one of the ways in which citizens can unite and produce energy together, consume as much as they need, and place surpluses on the market. In addition, they represent a way for citizens to actively contribute to the energy transition process.
Being in different places, they become part of the so-called virtual solar power plants, where the cooperative acts as an aggregator of energy production.
In energy cooperatives, government is democratic, according to the system of one member – one vote. Decentralization is made possible by the fact that energy is consumed at the place where it is produced, thus reducing dependence on large centralized energy systems, as well as energy losses.
